Tender improves on competing recipe app designs by offering a friendly and streamlined user experience catering to a younger demographic.

User research revealed that casual chefs prefer to browse recipes with less text and more predominant imagery. While creating this project, I learned the importance of iterating on designs, performing user tests, and improving on designs to improve the user experience.

My Process

Research

When it comes to recipe websites and apps, there is no shortage of options! I began with a detailed analysis into two major competitors: one well established player, Epicurious, and another more niche brand, Forks Over Knives.

Ideation

The final step before moving on to the UI was to create a brand identity. I wanted a look that was clean and elegant, yet approachable and fun.

Wireframe and Prototypes

I began the wireframing process with pen and paper concept sketches, creating multiple alternate design concepts for each page. These were converted to mid-fidelity wireframe prototypes, which I tested on users before moving to the final design.

Design

Applying the themes from the style guide to my low-fidelity wireframes, I synthesized high-fidelity wireframes, then applied more rounds of user testing.

Mockups

After several rounds of revisions, I made the designs pixel perfect, then created high definition mockups to showcase the project.
